The history of the Blacks in America is very disturbing and it is said that with the introduction of the music of protest, Jazz and Blues, they suddenly came to the prominence. Mamie Smith created some music history in the 1920s with her recording of the “Crazy Blues.” Being a vaudeville singer her performance style was multifaceted which also highlights the social preferences of the time. She is believed to be the first female African American artist to record vocals for blues.
